Genuine renewal is what CUF is ultimately seeking to further. And genuine
renewal is, as Pope Paul has stressed again and again, an inner, personal,
moral, and religious renewal; because there can be no genuine renewal in the
Church except by the individual response of her members to the universal
vocation to holiness. Many of our chapters have begun primarily as groups
who come together to deepen their spiritual life and their knowledge of the
Church-especially of the documents of Vatican II. It is astonishing how
different they are from that cloudy “spirit of Vatican II’ which is used so
powerfully to undermine the Church.
