CUF is pleased by today's Supreme Court ruling that upholds the federal ban on partial-birth abortion.
"This is a foot in the door for jurists who want to find a basis for ruling in accordance with their convictions rather than according to the abhorrent precedent of Roe v. Wade and its progeny," said CUF President Leon Suprenant.
"This is just a step, but an encouraging step. It is important to recognize that laws and decisions don't make us just, but just people enact just laws. We must pray for the continued enactment of just laws."
Suprenant also noted the consistent witness of the five Catholics who sit on the Supreme Court. All voted to uphold the ban, including the two Bush appointees.
We at CUF are grateful to all individuals and organizations that have worked tirelessly to pass this law, and we pray that this ruling may embolden those who are championing the right to life of the unborn.
