The Lay Vocation

As Catholics United for the Faith founder H. Lyman Stebbins put it in a 1974 address describing CUF’s meaning and purpose, “The laity have been called to share in the mission of the Church. What is her mission? And what is it to be our part in it? Vatican II’s Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity spells out the answer with a clarity that is inspiring and challenging–even, perhaps, alarming. And the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church sums it up: ‘All of Christ’s followers, therefore, are invited and bound to pursue holiness.”

If we are personally committed to forming ourselves in the image of Christ, our witness will extend His kingdom. The power of prayer, the power of faith, and the power of a properly formed conscience will give us the strength to live fully the life in the Spirit, to practice the virtues, and to love others.

CUF has grown over the years to provide many resources and services with a focus on spiritual formation, education (catechesis), and evangelization.
